Digestive System Lab

1.  The goal of this lab was to realize the size and length of each part of the digestive system and overall length of the digestive tract. This included the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine. I took away from this lab that my internal organs are super long when layed out and that my small intestine is HUGE.
-Date Table ----->       DIGESTIVE ORGAN        COLOR AND LENGTH (CM)
                                     - Mouth                               White and 10cm
                                     - Esophagus                         Red and 46cm
                                     - Stomach                            Gold and 14cm
                                     - Small Intestine                  Regular yarn and 721.36cm
                                     - Large Intestine                  Green and 180.34cm
                                     - TOTAL                              971.7cm

2. My Digestive System is much greater than my height. Infact I am 1.8m tall and my Digestive System is 9.72m. If you think about that, that is almost 5.4 times taller than me. I think my Digestive System is able to fit inside my abdomen because it is squished and cramped inside me.

3. I think it takes 18 hours for food to move through my entire Digestive System. However it actually takes 24-72 hours! It takes 6-8 hours for food to go through stomach and small intestine but food then enters your large intestine for digestion and absorption of water.

4. Digestion is different from absorption because Digestion is simply breaking down all the food particles and then processing them for the bodies needs. Absorption  is taking in nutrients and water so that the body can survive.

5. I want to learn what would happen if none of this did. (Really broad but just curious)
